Reece Walsh injury casts doubt over Brisbane Broncos' NRL season start

Broncos fullback suffers fractured orbital floor in head clash

Walsh set to miss opening round of 2024 NRL season

Brisbane Broncos star Reece Walsh has suffered a fractured orbital floor which will leave him in doubt for the opening round of the 2024 NRL season.

Walsh suffered the injury in a head clash with Penrith Panthers forward James Fisher-Harris in the opening minutes of the Broncos' round three clash at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

The fullback was taken from the field for a HIA and did not return, with Broncos coach Kevin Walters confirming after the game that Walsh had suffered a fractured orbital floor.

The injury is a major blow to the Broncos, who are already without fellow fullback Te Maire Martin due to a hamstring injury. It is also a setback for Walsh, who has been in impressive form since returning to the Broncos from the New Zealand Warriors at the start of the 2023 season.

Walsh is expected to miss at least four weeks of action, which means he will likely miss the Broncos' opening round clash against the Sydney Roosters at the SCG on March 10.

The Broncos will be hoping that Walsh can recover in time for their round two clash against the Newcastle Knights at Suncorp Stadium on March 18.
